Position Description Job Summary: The Sales Director oversees and manages small, mid-market and large group product new sales and renewal activities, including medical, dental, and vision and affiliated company products (such as life and disability) through all applicable distribution channels. Responsibilities: 1. Provide direct supervision, coaching and mentoring for all regional sales staff. 2. Develop and manage annual department sales and retention goals and individual staff goals to achieve regional revenue, membership and contribution margin objectives. 3. Develop territory sales plans to include prospecting opportunities and broker relationships. Devise tracking mechanism to report progress in meeting objectives. 4. Develop sales performance measurement tools, including weekly one-on-one meetings and quarterly performance review and feedback sessions with sales staff. 5. Work directly with Underwriting, Product Development, Broker Relations, Provider Contracting, Operations and others to ensure implementation of interdepartmental activities and initiatives, such as rate filings, new product development, underwriting policies, network analysis, communications, training, etc. 6. Develop and manage ongoing sales training plan, with specific focus on product knowledge, sales and negotiation, and presentation skills. 7. Manage annual budget pertaining to sales compensation, commissions and relevant G&A expenses. 8. Additional responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: 1. BS/BA degree in related field of study or equivalent and relevant work experience. 2. A minimum of 7 years in health insurance sales. 3. A minimum of 5 years supervisory/management experience 4. Results-oriented professional with a bias for action and the ability to partner effectively at all levels of the organization. 5. Proven sales, service and underwriting experience 6. Proficiency in underwriting/rating policies including alternative funding. 7. Experience performing profitability analyses utilizing multiple data sources. 8. Current state (or states) producer license or the ability to obtain current license within agreed upon timeframe. 9. Ability to travel, as required by job responsibilities. Additional Qualifications Preferred: 1. Advanced degree in appropriate and related field of study. 2. Experience working in a large, matrix organization. 3. Experience in life and disability sales. 4. Experience in launching new health products. 5. Experience developing a high performing broker network.
