Account Executive
These professionals must always be seeking prospective clients while maintaining satisfaction among existing clients. Account executives are responsible for developing long lasting relationships with their customers in order to retain their business. They act as a personal sales associate to each company, answer any questions about their products, and often coordinate deliveries or shipments to accommodate their customers’ schedule. There tends to be high competition among businesses within this industry, so account executives must have thorough knowledge of competitors’ items as well.
Account Manager
With many larger or national accounts, a great deal of maintenance and customization is necessary. Account managers often oversee numerous clients at a time, so they must be highly organized when increasing business with existing clients and targeting new clientele. Candidates must be able to effectively sell each product, which often requires knowledge of many other products in the same industry.
Director of Sales
Directors are responsible for all aspect of a company’s sales and must be capable of motivating and leading all members on a sales team. They oversee all initiatives, policies, and objects of an association in an effort to increase company revenue. Not only must they be familiar with all aspects of their company’s products, but with competitor products as well.
Estimator
When attempting to set sales goals for the year or prepare for new projects, estimators must gather and analyze a large amount of data. They have to consider current economic conditions, past sales trends, and the affects of projects and merchandise on their revenue. Education of the organization and marketplaces the estimator would be working with are mandatory in order for these candidates to achieve success.
Sales Administrator
Experienced sales employees are integral for these occupations. While they spend their days computing sales, preparing reports, and analyzing sales trends, little or no time is spent working with clients or making actual sales. A sales administrator’s responsibility lies in completing the administrative tasks in order to identify goals, peaks in performance, underachieving merchandise or products, and make assessments of sales territories. They communicate with other managers to create more efficient sales tactics and policies.
Sales Coordinator
The goal of sales coordinators is to increase the efficiency of the sales team by performing basic tasks such as scheduling appointments, contacting customers to notify them of any scheduling changes or delivery status, preparing documents, and much more. They are important for increasing overall organization and carry out a variety of tasks. These are entry level positions, so sales companies allow candidates new to the industry the opportunity to develop a better understanding of this career.
Sales Manager
Managers are often the main motivators of the sales team and have a great deal of direct contact with employees and clients, meaning that communication skills are a necessity. They work with other members of management to set long and short term goals, create incentive programs, and increase the overall volume of company sales. They must have an extensive understanding of techniques, goals, products, and the markets.
Sales Representative/Associate
These professionals have the highest amount of contact with customers and clients on a daily basis. They discover what is important to the customer, and make their merchandise appeal to their needs. The sales industry is highly competitive; therefore associates must be constantly researching companies and ways of attracting new clientele.
Sales Specialist
Associates employed in this career are expected to conduct research on numerous products, companies, techniques, and other sales related topics. They create lists of prospective clientele for sales representatives and associates to market campaigns towards. There are a number of complex tasks associated with these occupations that generally require a certain amount of experience in the sales industry.
Telemarketer/Telesales
Many associates entering the field of sales start in these positions. Merchandise and services are marketed to numerous clients using the telephone. Candidates must follow strict guidelines and policies set forth by their organization and governments. Due to the large amount of customer interaction, good communication and people skills are important for this occupation.
VP of Sales
All functions associated with customer service teams, including inside and outside sales, are the responsibility of these professionals. As with many other administrators, their main objective is to increase revenue and employee efficiency. They will often design and implement new strategies and techniques, while managing all members of the sales teams. Excellent leadership skills and creativity are helpful traits for this career.
